The Subliminal and the Sublime: Chris Dingman Album Release Party

Friday, June 26, 2015

7:00 PM

From the giant redwoods of California to the smallest ripples in water, our place and purpose in the universe is often illuminated by our awareness of the natural world.  In his five-part suite The Subliminal and the Sublime, genre-defying composer/vibraphonist Chris Dingman elegantly captures these profound and subtle wonders of nature, ultimately guiding the listener to reflect on the cosmos and their place within it.

Join us as we celebrate the album’s release with an exclusive performance of this sweeping 62-minute work live in The Greene Space, hosted by Inner Arts Initiative.

The show will also be streamed live here at 7pm:

The evening will include a conversation with the composer, exploring the connections between music, nature, and the inner search. Bassist/composer Garth Stevenson, internationally acclaimed for his nature-inspired music for film and yoga, will also join us to open the event with a brief set.

Commissioned by Chamber Music America, The Subliminal and the Sublime blends jazz, contemporary chamber music, minimalism, and ambient electronica with subliminal layers of pattern and detail inspired by the natural world. It features a sextet of virtuosic performers: Dingman on vibraphone, Loren Stillman on alto sax, Fabian Almazan on piano, guitarist Ryan Ferreira and the bass/drums tandem of Linda Oh and Justin Brown.

Inner Arts Initiative, Inc. is a non-profit corporation dedicated to expanding the role of music and art in society, and promoting a greater understanding of ourselves and our world through the arts.

The Subliminal and the Sublime was created with support from Chamber Music America’s Commissioning and Ensemble Development program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Foundation.
