For almost 40 years, the Richard Tucker Award has been granted to an American singer poised on the edge of a major national and international career, with a list of winners that reads like a who's who of American opera stars, including Renée Fleming, Stephanie Blythe, Lawrence Brownlee, Matthew Polenzani and Christine Goerke.

Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, 2017 Winner Nadine Sierra is quickly on her way to becoming a fixture at many of the world’s top houses. The rising-star soprano’s already long list of house debuts includes the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Paris Opera, Berlin Staatsoper and Zürich Opera, as well as recent summer debuts at the Ravinia, Tanglewood and Mostly Mozart festivals. On the concert stage, she has been a soloist with the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony and featured in televised concerts from Lincoln Center and Venice’s Teatro la Fenice.

In a preview to the December 10 Richard Tucker Gala at Carnegie Hall, WQXR presents an exclusive performance and conversation with Ms. Sierra, hosted by Nimet Habachy.

“There was no way to listen to soprano Nadine Sierra…and feel anything but awe and delight--a combination of admiration for her current gifts and eager anticipation at what the future surely holds for her.” (San Francisco Chronicle)
