The intimate and exclusive evening featured conversation with the celebrated soprano Aprile Millo, winner of the 1985 Tucker Award, and Barry Tucker, son of the great American tenor and President of the Richard Tucker Music Foundation. This event was Miss Pérez's first performance in New York since being named this year's Tucker Award winner.

WQXR's Naomi Lewin hosted.

This was a perfect event, newsworthy as a way of celebrating Ailyn Perez after her having won the Tucker Prize for 2012. Barry Tucker described the success of the prizes in nuturing so many developing opera careers over the years, then Tamara Wilson - who was awarded a Tucker Study Grant and who filled in nicely for Angela Meade - showed her stuff with excellent scenes from Ernani and Aida (O patria mia), a very promising Verdi soprano! to hear for yourself.
Also here, Stephen Costello sings Non t'amo piu and Danny Boy, emphasizing vocal beauty and ease - perfect. April Millo livens things up and adds to the family-like connections, and contributes O del amato ben, also Rachmaninoff's beautiful Georgian song. Finally Ailyn fills out the scene, with many charming stories.
A fine 90 minutes, warm and friendly, with some beautiful singing!
