The Greene Space presented a reading of August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone on Sept. 4, 2013 — part of our historic series recording all 10 plays in Wilson's American Century Cycle. The plays in the decade-by-decade cycle are being presented in the order in which they premiered.
Set in Pittsburgh in the 1910's, Joe Turner's Come and Gone chronicles the lives of a few freed former enslaved African Americans while exploring themes of identity, migration and the conflicts of racism and discrimination.
The reading was directed by Phylicia Rashad and featured actors Keith David, S. Epatha Merkerson, Roger Robinson, Raynor Scheine, Jason Dirden, John Douglas Thompson, January LaVoy, Nile Bullock, Taraji P. Henson, Rosalyn Coleman and Alexis Holt.
