Lopate and Locavores is back for a fifth season of culinary conversation, cooking demonstrations and delicious tastings—and this year comes with an extra Sporkful!
The three-part Locavores series spotlighting New York City’s food scene kicks off October 8 with host Leonard Lopate, a three-time James Beard Award winner. And later that month, regular Lopate Show contributor Dan Pashman will serve up an added helping of food-focused conversation, joining the series with the first live taping of The Sporkful—WNYC's James Beard Award-nominated podcast and blog about the great and the ridiculous side of gastronomy.

Celebrity chefs, authors and restaurateurs Lidia Bastianich, David Bouley and Andrew Carmellini talk with Leonard about the thrills and challenges of building—and running—a collection of restaurants in New York City and beyond. They’ll dish on what it takes to make it in the business, from choosing names for their eateries, to tapping the right chefs, to creating the perfect menus.
Join us for a look at the history of New York City's delis with authors and food writers Arthur Schwartz (former restaurant critic for the New York Daily News and now known as The Food Maven) and Joan Nathan (Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France). Then Leonard will host a tasting showdown, with Katz’s and Carnegie delis serving up their best pastrami.
Learn the tricks of the trade from bestselling cookbook authors Melissa Clark (Cook This Now) and Deb Perelman (The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook). They’ll give us the scoop on how they created their cookbooks, from research and recipe writing to photography and publication.
Join Dan Pashman, host of The Sporkful, for the first live taping of WNYC’s James Beard Award-nominated podcast that searches for new and better ways to eat. He’ll be celebrating the release of his first book Eat More Better: How to Make Every Bite More Delicious and talking with guests who share his obsession with food minutia. Featuring actress, author and comedian Amy Sedaris, Radiolab's Robert Krulwich and cronut creator Dominique Ansel. The event is sold out, but a live video webcast of the event will be available here.
