Bah Humbug! Watch a Mashup of Scrooges of Christmases Past

Friday, December 13, 2013

He's among the most iconic of holiday characters  a cold-hearted, miserly man named Ebenezer Scrooge who despises Christmas and all its trappings.

Through the years, the Charles Dickens classic has seen countless adaptations. A Christmas Carol has been told by the likes of muppets and Mickey Mouse, the role of Scrooge reimagined by George C. Scott, Bill Murray and Cicely Tyson (as Ebinita).

Our own radio play has become a beloved holiday tradition, performed live in The Greene Space and starring hosts and personalities from WNYC and WQXR. Written by award-winning playwright Arthur Yorinks and directed by WQXR's Elliott Forrest, past plays have featured actors David Hyde Pierce, F. Murray Abraham and Brian Cox as the curmudgeonly Scrooge.

This year, stage and screen veteran Tony Roberts takes on Ebenzer, with Fred Newman of A Prairie Home Companion back to provide sound effects. The show is sold out, buy you can watch our live video webcast here on Monday, Dec. 16 at 7pm.
