DanceTalks: Dancing Identity

Presented in collaboration between The Greene Space and City Park’s Foundation SummerStage

Tuesday July 27 2010 • 11:00am - 12:00pm ET
In-person event

Overview

This candid and lively conversation, moderated by Guggenheim Fellow, Dr. Kariamu Welsh, contemporary dance choreographer and scholar, is a deep dive into how the works of African American dancers and dancers of African descent are moving around the complex dialogues of globalization, the digital age and an expanding national ethos of inclusion to redefine dance on and in their own terms.   The dialogue includes a luminary panel of dancers and choreographers: Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden of Complexions Contemporary Ballet; Francesca Harper, former dancer with  Dance Theater of Harlem and choreographer for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Jamel Gaines of Creative Outlet Dance Theater; and Kyle Abraham, professional dancer and choreographer of Abraham.In.Motion.

Plus, experience a live performance by Kyle Abraham.
