Inspired by their daily Gig Alert feature, Soundcheck’s Gigstock mini-festival kicks off with a unique collaboration – and two freaking awesome bands.
For one night, Soundcheck and Oh My Rockness will join forces … to rule the world! (Note: Global domination is unconfirmed at press time.) Together, they’ll bring two incredible bands to The Greene Space for an evening of music and conversation – the first in a two-part Gigstock festival mixing showcase-length sets with conversation.
Led by singer, guitarist and lyricist Kip Berman, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart will soon release its third album, Days of Abandon. Since the 2011 release of the Brooklyn group’s dream-pop influenced album, Belong, the band has re-imagined its sound and its lineup, and describes its latest effort as “joyful and full of light.” The band recently released its first single off of its new record, called “Simple and Sure.”
Parquet Courts exploded into New York music fans’ collective consciousness early last year, with the release of their blistering post-punk LP, Light Up Gold. The album earned them a mention in Soundcheck host John Schaefer’s “Top Ten Reasons Why New York Music Ruled The World In 2013.” Last fall, the four-piece band followed up with the release of an EP called Tally All The Things That You Broke – and just released the sheet music for the first single (called “Sunbathing Animal”) from their upcoming full-length album, set to be released this summer.
This event will be taped for broadcast on an upcoming episode of Soundcheck.
Gigstock is a two-day mini-festival on April 9 and 10. Inspired by Soundcheck’s Gig Alert, a concert calendar feature heard each morning on WNYC, Gigstock will bring some of those great artists – and their fans – into the The Greene Space for great music and conversation.
