Join us in the Greene Space for a Preservation Story Slam, presented by Partners in Preservation, a program in which American Express, along with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, awards grants to historic places across the country.

From April 26 through May 21, 2012, New York residents and people across the country are encouraged to vote for their favorite of the 40 historic places throughout the five boroughs nominated to receive preservation funding.

On Wednesday, May 16, wel get to know the nominees. We heared stories about each location and a look into their rich histories.

Since 2006, $6.5 million has been awarded to preservation projects in the following locations: San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Boston, Seattle, and Saint Paul/Minneapolis…now, New York City. Through this partnership, American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation seek to increase the public’s awareness of the importance of historic preservation in the United States and to preserve America’s historic and cultural places. The program also hopes to inspire long-term support from local citizens for the historic sites at the heart of their communities.

The evening was rounded out with music from DJ Parler and Free Beer courtesy of the Good Beer Seal.
