Teach In: How to Bring Tough Conversations into the Classroom

Tuesday May 8 2012 • 4:30pm - 4:30pm ET
In-person event

Overview

One event, like the death of Trayvon Martin, can spawn hundreds of opinions and debates. SchoolBook and Facing History and Ourselves are co-hosting a workshop on how to be an effective teacher when the world crashes into the classroom. Students from WNYC’s award-winning Radio Rookies project along with you, educators from around New York City, will prod all of us to think more constructively about the topic.

Parents and students with an interest in learning how to guide productive conversations around difficult topics are invited to join educators at this SchoolBook conversation in The Greene Space.

Moderator: Peter Nelson, director of Facing History and Ourselves’ New York Office.

Support for the Neighborhood to Neighborhood project comes from the Hive Digital Media Learning Fund, a collaborative fund started by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and The New York Community Trust.
