Vixen on Varick

A Preview of the New York Philharmonic's Production of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen

Sunday June 12 2011 • 4:30pm - 4:30pm ET
In-person event

Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic

Overview

Mr. Gilbert has made the idea of bringing opera to the symphonic stage a central part of his artistic vision at the Philharmonic. Mr. Fitch and Ms. Armitage will join him in exploring how, collectively, they will bring to life a forest populated by humans and animals on the Avery Fisher Hall stage, illuminating the touching story set to what is known as some of Janáček’s “sunniest” and most beautiful orchestral music.  Conversation will be interspersed with musical performance, including selections from the opera sung by Alan Opie (who will play The Forester in the Philharmonic’s production), and Marie Lenormand (The Fox), among others.
