We the Commuters goes live-in-studio with a look at homelessness in the subways, hosted by Shumita Basu along with her fellow WNYC and Gothamist reporters.
The number of people sleeping on the trains is up as commuters confront “compassion fatigue” and elected officials propose partial solutions. Get context on the current crisis with Josh Dean of the homeless advocacy group Human.nyc, State Senator Liz Krueger, Giselle Routhier, policy director of Coalition for the Homeless and Kathryn Wylde of Partnership for NYC.
We’ll also hear from guests who are, or recently have been, homeless. They’ll share their stories and key survival techniques for living in the transit system. And get answers to your own questions on this topic, which you’ll have an opportunity to submit just before the show.
Plus a performance by Theatre of the Oppressed‘s Rapid Response Troupe, which uses interactive theatre to highlight social, health and human rights injustices.
