2015 Richard Tucker Award Winner Jamie Barton

Overview

This year’s recipient, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, has been described by The Guardian as “a great artist, no question, with an imperturbable steadiness of tone, and a nobility of utterance that invites comparison not so much with her contemporaries as with mid-20th century greats such as Kirsten Flagstad.” Some of her 15-16 highlights include debuts with the Seattle Opera and Royal Opera House (Nabucco); LA Opera (Norma), and Washington National Opera (Götterdämmerung). In a preview to the November 1 Richard Tucker Gala, WQXR presents an exclusive performance and conversation with Ms. Barton.

Watch the sold-out performance live below at 7pm ET:

The evening also features performances by 2001 Richard Tucker Award winner Christine Goerke and Paul Appleby, 2011 Richard Tucker Career Grant winner, all accompanied by pianist Brian Zeger.  Hosted by author, lecturer, and Metropolitan Opera producer/commentator William Berger
