Robert Glasper draws together his parallel passions for hip hop and jazz on his latest release, "Black Radio" In addition to his formal jazz training, the pianist has long navigated the nebulous territory between the two genres working with artists like Q-Tip, Mos Def, and Erykah Badu. For this special edition of Soundcheck, the Robert Glasper Experiment (featuring Casey Benjamin, Derrick Hodge, and Mark Colenburg) joined us in the Greene Space along with another "Black Radio" collaborator - Grammy-nominated R&B artist Bilal.
Soundcheck also welcomed Canadian rapper and playwright Baba Brinkman. Brinkman put Chaucer and Darwin to a beat in his acclaimed off-Broadway productions of The Canterbury Tales Remixed and The Rap Guide to Evolution. He brought his "lit hop" skills to the Greene Space for a live performance.
