Activism and Art: Celebrating Mexican Music and Literature
Jarana Beat perform live in The Greene Space
Activism is infused with a Latin beat for this event, hosted by Latino USA‘s Maria Hinojosa.
Novelist and playwright Veronica Gonzalez Peña joins writer-performer Rubén Martínez to discuss border issues, cultural hybridity, migration, and more. The show included performances by Jarana Beat, a world music band that blends the unique sounds of Afro-Amerindian Mexico with contemporary elements to create a new interpretation of Mexican music.
