Look Back at the Landmark Cultural Year of 1913 with Sara Fishko

Friday April 19 2024 • 2:12am - 2:12am ET

As 2013 approaches, join us for a look back at the landmark cultural year of 1913 – when shock was the norm. See the images and hear the sounds of Modernism in this sneak preview of a new radio special produced and hosted by WNYC’s Sara Fishko.

From The Armory Show in New York, which introduced Cubism to America, to the “Skandalkonzert” of Arnold Schoenberg in Vienna, which sparked a near-riot among concert-goers, to the legendary premiere of The Rite of Spring in Paris – 1913 was the year many have called “the first year of the 20th century.”

Fishko’s guests are Ann Temkin of MoMA, author Frederic Morton (A Nervous Splendor, Thunder at Twilight) and author/pianist Stuart Isacoff, who will play music of that year at the Greene Space grand!

The Greene Space is funded by you.
