Peter Mills Weiss and Julia Mounsey: The Working Group

Wanderlust Wednesdays

Originally Aired: Wednesday, May 10, 2023

Overview

As part of The Greene Space’s Wanderlust Wednesdays series, Peter Mills Weiss and Julia Mounsey present The Working Group, an auto-fictional men’s group engaged in tackling the “Crisis of Masculinity.” This performance uncovers what happens when the group meets to “better themselves” and encourages a live audience to help the actors participate in their rigorous self-surveillance.

Peter and Julia are collaborators known for their captivating storytelling. Their hit play “While You Were Partying” was described by the New York Times as, “It burrows under the skin like a parasite. There has not been a day since I saw this show when I did not think about it.”

Peter and Julia collaborate together. Their work wrestles with questions of cruelty, authenticity, deception, entertainment, and power. We value simple language, functional design, autobiography, and vulnerability. Their last show, While You Were Partying, was one of Time Out NY’s top ten shows of 2021. Recent work has been presented at Soho Rep, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus, and the Under the Radar Festival at the Public Theater. We were both members of the 2017-2019 Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, the 2017-2018 Devised Theater Working Group at the Public Theater, and were Baryshnikov Arts Center Resident Artists in 2019.
