Silvana Estrada’s Debut Album

Soundcheck, Live

Originally Aired: Tuesday, January 11, 2022

Overview

NO NEED TO RSVP — JUST COME BACK TO THIS PAGE STARTING TUESDAY, JANUARY 11 AT 2PM ET TO WATCH THE STREAM.

In our first live event of 2022, impassioned song-writer Silvana Estrada joins Soundcheck host John Schaefer for an evening of conversation and music from her debut album. The 23-year-old Mexican artist has achieved a vocal styling which pays homage to the jazz songstresses she idolized in adolescence and her music honors the legacy of Latin American folk stylings. From her poeticism and fresh take on the traditional blooms a deeply heartfelt and idyllic sound entirely her own.

A multi-instrumentalist raised in a musical home in the mountain town of Veracruz, Silvana plays the Venezuelan cuatro guitar in many of her songs. Having performed baroque choir music in her youth, the layered roots of her musical influences don’t go unnoticed. In the first few measures of her single “Te Guardo,” guitar arpeggios are elevated by choral-like vocalizations. “My music is made of who I am,” she says.

This event is produced with Soundcheck and hosted by John Schaefer. Genre-neutral and open-eared, Soundcheck is the New Sounds podcast where artists perform and talk about their work, their process, and themselves.
